Preferred Apps for File Transfer

Wherever possible we strongly recommend that you use Files.com's native apps as opposed to third party apps such as FTP apps.

In order to support the fastest possible speeds, we have built many optimizations into the apps that we provide.

These optimizations include things like automatically tuned parallelism, intelligent routing around corporate firewalls, and more. We have also added much of this technology into our SDKs.

Here are our apps ranked by speed:

Files.com Desktop App for Windows/Mac

The Files.com Desktop App for Windows and Mac is the top choice for achieving the fastest possible file transfers. Its standalone high-speed transfer mode is purpose-built for performance, allowing files to move instantly between your local desktop and your Files.com site. This mode is engineered to handle both massive volumes of files and extremely large individual files with ease, making it ideal for enterprise-scale workloads and mission-critical transfers. By leveraging advanced optimizations such as parallelism, intelligent routing, and firewall-aware networking, it consistently outperforms third-party tools like FTP clients and provides reliable performance.

In addition to standalone mode, the Files.com Desktop App also provides a mounted drive mode that lets you access your Files.com site as a mounted drive inside Windows Explorer or macOS Finder. Mount mode is convenient for browsing, opening, and interacting with files as though they were stored locally, but it is not optimized for maximum speed. Standalone mode, on the other hand, is specialized for high-performance transfers, making it the best option when speed, scale, or reliability are the priority.

Files.com continues to invest heavily in this desktop app, with ongoing improvements and future innovations focused first on transfer performance. For more information, please refer to our Files.com Desktop App for Windows and Mac documentation.

Files.com Command Line App (CLI)

The Files.com CLI is the next best choice for high-speed transfers. It is a command-line tool designed for users who need automation, batch jobs, or custom scripts instead of a graphical interface. The CLI supports advanced acceleration technology, making it ideal for scripted transfers, scheduled tasks, and large automated workflows. Download, install, and start benefiting from a tool built for speed and scriptability. Visit our Files.com Command Line Interface App (CLI) documentation for more details.
