Preferred Apps for File Transfer
Wherever possible, use Files.com's native apps instead of third-party apps such as FTP clients. Our apps include optimizations built for speed, including automatically tuned parallelism and routing around corporate firewalls. Much of this technology is also built into our SDKs.
Here are our apps ranked by speed:
Files.com Desktop App for Windows/Mac
The Files.com Desktop App for Windows and Mac is the top choice for the fastest possible file transfers. Its fast transfer mode is built for performance and moves files quickly between your local desktop and your Files.com site. It handles both large volumes of files and extremely large individual files, which suits it to enterprise-scale workloads. Optimizations such as parallelism, routing, and firewall-aware networking let it outperform third-party tools like FTP clients.
The Files.com Desktop App also provides a mounted drive mode that lets you access your Files.com site as a mounted drive inside Windows Explorer or macOS Finder. Mount mode is convenient for browsing, opening, and interacting with files as though they were stored locally, but it is not optimized for maximum speed. Fast transfer mode is the better choice when speed and scale are the priority.
Files.com continues to invest in the desktop app, with ongoing improvements focused first on transfer performance. For more information, see our Files.com Desktop App for Windows and Mac documentation.
Files.com Command Line App (CLI)
The Files.com CLI is the next best choice for high-speed transfers. It is a command-line tool for users who need automation, batch jobs, or custom scripts instead of a graphical interface. The CLI supports acceleration technology that suits it to scripted transfers, scheduled tasks, and large automated workflows. See our Files.com Command Line Interface App (CLI) documentation for more details.
Rclone
Rclone is a command-line program to manage files on cloud storage. Over 70 cloud storage products support rclone including Files.com.
Rclone has powerful cloud equivalents to the unix commands rsync, cp, mv, mount, ls, ncdu, tree, rm, and cat. Rclone's familiar syntax includes shell pipeline support, and --dry-run protection. It is used at the command line, in scripts, or via its API.
You can download rclone from the rclone website.
When configuring rclone, you will see an option for connecting to Files.com.
Files.com SDKs for Developers
Our SDKs include the same optimization technology as our CLI app for optimum speed. See our Developer Portal for more details.
Files.com Mobile App for iOS/Android
On a mobile device, use our mobile apps for iOS and Android for fast parallel file transfers. See our Files.com Mobile App for iOS/Android documentation for more details.
