Foreign Language Support

Files.com supports multiple languages. These can be configured site-wide, and can be set in the settings for an individual user.

The following languages are supported:

  • English (en)
  • Deutsch / German (de)
  • Español / Spanish (es)
  • Français / French (fr)
  • 日本語 / Japanese (ja)
  • Português / Portuguese (pt)

Setting the Default Language for Your Site

Site administrators can set the language used by default by all users. This can be overridden by individual users' own settings for language. The desktop application has its own language setting, which is not affected by the site language setting

The default language will be used when web visitors access an Inbox or a Share Link, as well as for email invitations generated for Inboxes and Share Links.

Setting A User's Preferred Language

Site administrators can update a user's preferred language setting to override the site-wide default language for the web interface. The desktop application has its own language setting, which is not affected by the user's preferred language setting

To update a user's language through the web interface, edit the settings for the desired user and change the Language setting.

Updating Your Personal Preferred Language Setting

Users who can log into the web interface can change their own interface language setting without requiring an administrator's intervention. The desktop application has its own language setting, which is not affected by your preferred language setting

Desktop Application

The Files.com desktop application also supports languages other than English.

By default, the desktop application will use the computer system's language preference. You can change the language for the desktop application within its Preferences.

Changing the Language setting in the desktop app will not change the Web UI settings, and it will not impact other interfaces like FTP that are only available in English.

API

The Files.com API supports localized responses by honoring the standard Accept-Language HTTP header. When provided, this header guides the API in selecting a preferred language for applicable response content.

Example request:

GET /api/rest/v1/notifications

In this example, the API will attempt to return localized response fields in Spanish where applicable.

Language support currently applies to select human-facing fields only, such as notification messages and error descriptions.

If the specified language is not supported or the header is omitted, the API defaults to English.

Multiple language preferences (e.g., Accept-Language: fr,es;q=0.8) are allowed. The API will use the first supported language in the preference list.

Customer Support

At this time, Files.com can only provide customer support in English.
