New Modern Checksum Options Now Available with Opt-In to Control File Integrity
We are excited to announce a significant update to our platform, offering new modern checksum options (SHA1, SHA256) alongside the existing CRC32 and MD5. As the new checksums are more computationally intensive, checksum processing will now be opt-in, allowing you to choose whether and which checksums to enable based on your needs.
What’s Changing?
Previously, checksum calculations were applied automatically to all file uploads. However, we’ve learned that only a small portion of customers actively rely on this feature. To improve system performance and offer flexibility, checksums will now be opt-in. This allows you to decide if checksum calculations are necessary for your workflow. You’ll also have the ability to choose from modern algorithms such as SHA1 and SHA256, in addition to CRC32 and MD5.
What You Need to Know
Starting from the effective date, you will have the option to:
- Opt-in to checksum calculations, if they are important for your operations.
- Select from multiple checksum types, including CRC, MD5, SHA1, and SHA256.
By default, checksum processing will be disabled unless you choose to opt-in.
Next Steps
- If checksums are critical to your workflow, visit the File Integrity section in Data Governance to configure your settings and select the checksum algorithms that meet your requirements.
- If you do not require checksums, no further action is needed.
Key Dates
- Notice start date: Nov 1st, 2024
- Effective date: Dec 3rd, 2024
