Global Acceleration Features
The Global acceleration features setting affects the file transfer routes between your users and your selected storage region.
Changing this setting will immediately effect all new connections to your site.
Closest Servers
Files.com recommends letting us connect users to their closest server. This feature attempts to optimize the network connection between users and File.com storage.
For example, if your storage is in Europe, and your users are in Singapore, then your users will be connected to our Singapore region which will then forward those connections to Europe over our accelerated network. If your users are in Europe then they will be connected to our Europe region, avoiding needless roundtrip routing.
To maintain performance, we strongly recommend not using a Custom Domain as it will circumvent these acceleration features. If you must use a Custom Domain then make sure that your Custom Domain is implemented in the same region as your storage.
Regional Only
If you have compliance conditions that require your data never be stored (even temporarily) outside of the closest server to your selected storage region then your site administrators should change this option to use your specified file storage geographic region. In this case, your users should connect using your specific custom subdomain (mycompany.files.com) or your custom domain.
For this example, let's assume that you've configured your site's region to be Canada. If your storage is in Europe, and your users are in Singapore, then your users will be connected to our Canada region which will then forward those connections to Europe over our accelerated network. If your users are in Europe then they will also be connected to our Canada region which will then forward those connections to Europe over our accelerated network. All user connections have effectively been "pinned" to the Canada region, avoiding data being transmitted through other regions.
